Toolmakers and Engineering Patternmakers are employed in most parts of Australia and moderate growth is predicted in the future. They primarily work in Manufacturing; Construction; and Other Services industries.

  • study drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of products to be   manufactured and models to be designed
  •  measure and mark out metal stock and castings using various gauges
  •  shape metal and wood stock using machine tools
  •  apply protective finishes to patterns to indicate the method of assembly
  •  assemble pattern sections and shape workpieces to specified finish

Metal Fitters and Machinist are required to have diploma and relevant experience.
